    Ye Cannot Serve the LORD (#1)

    Before sending Israel to their new homes in Canaan and before dying, Joshua warned the O.T. church that serving Jehovah was not easy, and they had better carefully count the cost, no different from our N.T. Lord and Savior. Here is Joshua 24:19 explained and applied in four sermons.

    Most churches and Christians compromise today from true apostolic Christianity. They want a short, comfortable, and easy religion that does not interfere with their lifestyle or carnality. Some use Jesus' easy yoke and light burden to condemn accountability and true Bible preaching with insistent urgency.

    Ye Cannot Serve the LORD (#3)

    Joshua explained why Israel could not serve the LORD - because He is holy and jealous. Consider the man stoned to death for picking up sticks on the Sabbath and the ribband of blue for holiness. God is jealous and demands and expects our total love for Him only, not even close family or friends.

    Ye Cannot Serve the LORD (#4)

    Joshua explained why Israel could not serve the LORD - because He would not forgive their transgressions or sins. While God is merciful, He has a limit to His mercy, and Joshua knew it very well, having seen God kill his generation in the wilderness for refusing to take Canaan out of foolish fear.

    Guarantee(s) of Eternal Life (#1)

    The guarantee(s) of eternal life are God's part by His eternal counsel and the death and resurrection of Jesus. The focus is on God's promise and finished work rather than the assurance of eternal life, which is our confidence by evidence and proof. The Bible has many wonderful guarantees of it.

    Wine in Communion Slides

    Corrected forced meaning of "drunken" in I Corinthians 11:21, for it does not have to mean intoxicated, which the context does not support. While wine was certainly the beverage of choice of the Jews and Jesus, we know of medical and medicinal reasons to allow grape juice for those situations.

    When Pain Ends Slides

    Life and the universe are filled with pain, trouble, death. But Jesus died to lift the sin curse, so the creation will be changed back to its original perfection. It will occur when Jesus returns and God formally declares us His children to the universe! Repeated from 2021.

    Hezekiah’s Example for You Slides

    Hezekiah was one of Judah's four great kings. His life has more recorded than most, with lessons for your profit. He began to reign at 25 and boldly started a revival to undo his father's evil reign. He had two crises and three miracles at 39, and God credited him with the greatest faith of all Judah's kings.

    The 15 segments of Hebrews 6:17-20 help appreciate the beauty and power of the passage by slowing down to see its parts. Our glorious God wanted to do something special for His children, for He was not content merely promising eternal life, so he doubled its certainty by swearing an oath.

    Guarantee(s) of Eternal Life (#3)

    God inspired other guarantees of eternal life for our comfort and joy. From Romans 5 to Hebrews 7, here is a short review of a few of them. Reading Romans chapters 8-9 with a view to finding as many as possible is a possible devotion. Love Jesus as Surety that swore to His hurt and changed not.

    Jesus Earned a Full Reward

    Rewards are a theme in the Bible, and God promised Jesus great rewards for coming to earth and dying the horrible death of the cross for us. Jesus obeyed every command with great zeal, and He earned everything God had promised Him. We should look to Jesus as the perfect example of living right.

    Do Not Lose Your Full Reward

    Rewards, recompense, and crowns are throughout the Bible, and God gave them as incentive for us to keep His commands. But you can also lose a full reward, and men can take away your crown. This simple study of rewards should alter how you live and convict you to hold fast for a full reward.

    What a Word Is This! (#1)

    When Jesus ordered a devil out of a man by His authority and power, the crowd said, What a word is this! A great demonstration of strength is to create, alter, or destroy by speaking without any other effort. The Genesis 1 creation account says ten times, "And God said," and then, "And it was so."

    What a Word Is This! (#2)

    Our God and His Son Jesus often showed their mighty power by merely speaking. From Babel to hardening Pharaoh to mocking Sennacherib, God spoke, and it happened. Jesus could heal by His word, cast out devils, and turn storms into calm. Trust Him today like the centurion did!

    What a Word Is This! (#3)

    Jesus' miracles are often seen as children's stories, but they help build faith. Can you believe like the centurion, that Jesus need only say the word? Like the woman with the issue of blood, if she can only touch His robe? He will condemn men at Judgment, but He has kind promises for believers.

    Our great God has eternal thoughts about you. They are wonderfully precious and innumerable. They meant much to David. God is thinking about you all the time. You should be thinking about Him as much as possible. Sharing thoughts back and forth is a great part of daily walking with God.

    God has thoughts toward His church and toward individuals (David). He saved us to know Him and His Son, and His thoughts should elicit ours back to Him. Each sermon should have a response to apply what is heard. Life should be lived as unto Him, and we can ask Him to think on us (Nehemiah).

    Psalm 139 – God and David (#1) Slides

    This Psalm is a favorite of many. Let's look at it in detail. It begins with the omniscience and omnipresence of God for the blessing of David. It is not a Psalm to warn that God is looking for sins and wants to judge you. It is a Psalm for comfort and delight as God had glorious thoughts to make David great.

    After God's omniscience and omnipresence, God formed David in his mother's womb just as He had planned. David exploded in praise for God's countless precious thoughts toward him. He concluded by hating the enemies of God that blaspheme Him and asked for God to assist him to be perfect.

    We start to close this sermon series with the sovereignty of God's thoughts, but that sovereign rule does not alter your duty, your punishment or reward, or prayers.     Intercession is going to God on behalf of another person or group for a great need. Jesus gave an incredible example when He prayed to save Peter from Satan's sifting harming him. Consider the event and its lessons. Then consider the doctrine and the distinction from ordinary prayer.

    Power of Intercessory Prayer (#2)

    The Bible's examples of intercessory prayer are encouraging and help define it. Jesus intercedes for us as part of our salvation, but He also prays for us when we sin and need recovery back to fellowship. After exalting our Lord's intercession, let us pray more for others and intercede for them.

    Moses and Miriam led Israel to celebrate one of God's greatest deliverances, one that He took great delight in, to save His church from Pharaoh and Egypt in the Red Sea.     Prepare to Meet thy God

    You cannot avoid God. He sees your life for blessing or punishment, and you will face Him in the Day of Judgment. Israel would not repent by His chastening, so Amos gave them this sober warning. What should you do? Examine your life to repent of every sin that offends Him. He forgives sincere souls.

    We must love preaching, prove it by the word of God, and tenaciously defend it. The noble Bereans and Ephesus did it perfectly. We are Bible Christians, for we would not know about Jesus without the Bible. But we need reminders to renew our love of the Bible and make it our criterion for the truth.

    Our faith has its object and resting place in Jesus the Son of God. But it is more than mere mental assent or doctrinal agreement. It is the first evidence and proof of eternal life, and it should be known as such and increased. Jesus is the ultimate Overcomer, and we are in Him, by Him, and for Him.

    Jesus by His offices and gifts is the great Overcomer. His priesthood bests all others, and His gift of the Holy Spirit is glorious. Both God the Father and devils declared Him the Son of God. The greatest saints found Him totally sufficient. His resume, made any way you wish, is incredible.

    Incredible Forgiveness!

    What happened in Isaiah 6 that took filthy Isaiah from woe to preaching? God took away his iniquity and purged his sin. Glory! This sermon was to exalt God's forgiveness as much as we could and in different ways. Rejoice and run your Christian race with approval, assurance, and confidence.

    Jesus Is Precious

    Peter used the word "precious" to describe Jesus three times in just four verses. He is precious to believers, but it is a great joy to think of all the ways He is precious. Let the list contained in this sermon provoke you to think of some of your own. He is beyond description and ineffably sublime. Amen.

    Who Forgives Like Our God? #1

    Micah 7 describes great corruption in Israel, coming judgment, and then a restoration. As he closed out his prophecy, Micah saw the apostles of Jesus performing marvelous things like Moses had done for 40 years. Their might would confound and terrify the nations as Gentiles converted worldwide.

    With covenant promises of salvation to Abraham and Jacob in mind, fulfilled by Mary and Zacharias and other N.T. places, Micah exalted God's forgiveness with a rhetorical question and eight - count them - descriptions of forgiveness. Who is a God like unto Thee? ... by forgiveness. None!

    Jesus: Revealer of Hearts

    Simeon rejoiced to see the infant Jesus, for he knew He was the Savior of the elect. But he prophesied that God had ordained Jesus to reveal the thoughts of many hearts, for some would repent and believe on Him, others would speak against Him and move to crucify Him. What about your heart?

    America observed the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attack of 9/11 that took 2,977 lives. Yet America's history includes far worse events and so does world and Bible history. This short sermon is about much greater wrath coming that exceeds the imagination, but Jesus has saved His elect.
