What Is the World?

1. What is the world? It is the invisible, but very real, anti-God system of mankind; it promotes sin; it hates Jesus. It would kill all Christians, like it did Jesus, to silence them.
2. What is the world? Earthly existence on a corrupting, dying planet under the bondage of sin, populated by a rebel race addicted to sinful pleasures and a reprobate philosophy.
3. What is the world? It is the sinful choices and evil passions of depraved man that has set himself against God, loving anything but God and godliness, drunk by life on earth.
4. What is the world? It is the lifestyle and thinking of the children of wrath following the devil’s lies to rebelliously chase his promised pleasures of the lusts of flesh and mind.
5. What is the world? It is the combined and conspiratorial design of the devil and mankind to get rid of God any way they can, greedily pursue sin, and eliminate Bible believers.
6. What is the world? It includes intentional priorities for earthly, natural things at the expense of heavenly, spiritual things e.g. house, garden, job, body, family, fun, self, etc.
7. What is the world? It is doctrinal heresy and confusion about the true identity of Jesus, which is by the god of this world and is the spirit of antichrist John warned against.
8. From a moral view … it is committed with greed to rebellion against all that is godly for the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life (I Jn 2:15-17; Ep 4:17-19).
9. From a divine view … it is the vile enemy of God (the God of the Bible) and the willing slaves of the god of this world, the devil himself (James 4:4; Eph 2:1-3; II Cor 4:4).
10. From a matter view … it is corrupting and decaying constantly under the burden and curse of sin, with the whole creation groaning and travailing in pain (Rom 8:20-23).
11. From a duration view … it is only 6000 years old but will soon be entirely destroyed by fervent heat that will melt the elements and dissolve all you know (II Pet 3:10-12).
12. From a legal view … its inhabitants are condemned to die three different ways, with the final being eternal torment in the lake of fire (Genesis 2:17; Rom 5:19; Rev 20:11-15).
13. From a wisdom view … other than some basics in their consciences by God, they are rebelliously ignorant and then given over to insanity (I Tim 6:3-5,20-21; Rom 1:22-32).
14. From a functional view … its inhabitants corrupted God’s ways on earth, once earning a worldwide flood, and they pervert His good things into evil (Eccl 7:29; Ps 36:1-4).
15. From a truth view … it is committed to lies of the father of lies, gripped tightly in its right hand, violently against truth, and so justly deluded (John 8:44; II Thess 2:9-12).
16. From a hope view … it has none, for it is presently dysfunctional, and its future is total destruction, and the best it can achieve is vanity and vexation (Eccl 1:1-18; Ps 39:5-6).
17. From a fear view … its inhabitants live in dread of all kinds of things and are abused by fear of death through use of the king of terrors by others (Job 18:14; 24:17; Heb 2:15).
18. From a spirit view … it is filled with powerful devils cast out of heaven so that woe is declared against the earth and its inhabitants (II Tim 2:26; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:12).
19. From a Christ view … its most educated and privileged killed the Son of God, and they would kill all true Christians with false Christians leading (John 15:18-25; Rev 17:6).
20. From a remedy view … its hopeless wretches born here chase offered joy and peace that turns to misery and pain, so they try to escape by drink, drugs, dereliction (Is 48:22).
21. From a political view … its nations selfishly pursue their profit at the expense of other nations, but they all agree in principle against the righteous (Ps 2:1-3; Rev 17:12-13).
22. From a success view … they measure life by toys and luxury beyond that needed without regard for their Creator and spiritual things of His kingdom (James 5:1-8; Phil 3:18-19).
23. Combined … its inhabitants are damned and doomed to a lying and vexing existence without hope or remedy, terrified by coming death, but then eternal torment (Heb 9:27).
24. You are a stranger and pilgrim temporarily living in a defiled place God will fully burn; you are an alien to them that does not deserve to live and would kill you if they could.
25. To whatever degree you follow the world is the degree you sacrifice victory and peace.
26. But there is total victory over this world and blessings beyond belief for those with faith.

What Is Overcoming?

1. Overcome = to beat, conquer, defeat, dominate, enslave, overpower, overwhelm, prevail, subdue, surmount, triumph, vanquish, or win the victory over all in the world; see Bible usage (eight in next line; Luke 11:22; John 16:33; Acts 19:16; Romans 3:4; 12:21; II Peter 2:19-20; I John 2:13-14; 4:4; 5:4-5; Revelation 11:7; 12:11; 13:7; 17:14).
2. We can overcome and gain incredible rewards for it (Rev 2:7,11,17,26; 3:5,12,21; 21:7); it is paramount, passionate love of Christ, then hatred of false doctrine, then continuing.
3. The world hates us as Cain did Abel, but Abel won (I Jn 3:12-13; 3:1; 5:19; Heb 11:3); the world hated Jesus as it does us, but He and we win gloriously (Rev 1:4-6; 2:26-27).
4. The world has its lying spirit of antichrist, but we overcome by Him in us (I Jn 4:1-6).
5. Past nations of Europe united against us, but our Lamb overcame them (Rev 17:14).
6. Martyrs overcame Satan’s violence by faith in the Lamb and gospel, even though it was “Christians” condemning them, torturing them, killing them (Rev 12:11,17; 17:6,14).
7. We are saved from sin, death, Satan, hell (Acts 16:31; Rom 10:13-17; II Tim 1:6-12).
8. This universe will dissolve in fire, but we get a new one (I Jn 2:15-17; II Pet 3:10-14).
9. Worldlings use drink or drugs for life; faith is for abundant life (Jn 10:10; 14:27; 15:11).
10. We shall judge angels, let alone human enemies of this world (I Cor 6:1-3; Rev 19:14).
11. They cannot touch us in any hurtful way, but our King will touch them (Luke 12:4-5), and even when they imprison or kill us, not a hair of ours will be lost (Luke 21:16-19).
12. Death is instant spirit transportation to heaven by angels and temporary sleep of body.
13. We overcome the world by knowing the truth, as they fall for error, folly, lies, trouble.
14. We have all the answers for their questions, but they have no answers for our questions.
15. The world is ignorant and insane, but we have wisdom (Pr 8:1; Jas 1:5; I Thess 5:1-10).
16. Our worst is light affliction for a moment compared to eternity’s weight (II Cor 4:17).
17. Jesus has already overcome the world, and we get to cheerfully ride along (John 16:33).
18. Rather than the world’s evil overcoming us, we overcome it with good (Romans 12:21).
19. The world promises liberty for sin, but they are slaves, and we escape (II Pet 2:19-20).
20. Satan is god and prince of this world, but young men beat him (I John 2:13-14; Jas 4:7).
21. With the whole armor of God and insider info, we win (II Cor 2:11; Eph 4:27; 6:10-18).
22. As partakers of the divine nature and power, we can escape the world (II Peter 1:3-4).
23. The world trembles in terror about death, but we can justly mock it (I Cor 15:55-57); they are hopeless without hope, but we have much hope, joy, and peace (Rom 15:13).
24. All they have and know is coming to an end, but eternal glory has hardly started for us.
25. Believers can be transformed, rather than conformed, to overcome error (Rom 12:1-2).
26. Intervention may be a popular television series, but our Lord intervened mightily for our victory to overcome the world by birth, parents, providence, election, justification, regeneration, conversion, conviction to repent and grow, coming glorification, etc., etc.

What Is Faith?

1. How do the children of God victoriously overcome the world? By faith! And what is the main object of that faith? Jesus the Son of God, the great Overcomer (I John 5:4-5)!
2. How can you be an overcomer? It is easier than you think. Totally believe, and never look back; faith in Jesus provides true knowledge, internal strength, and a perfect future.
3. Faith must be defined carefully and exalted above shallow corruption of it by Arminian, decisional salvationists that reduce it to a mere decision or prayer to gain eternal life.
4. Faith is believing, for Paul defined it that way for tempted Jews (Heb 11:6; 10:38-39); faith is confident, active trust in God’s character and revelation, producing obedience.
5. Faith rests on two things – God’s existence and nature to reward obedience (Heb 11:6); but faith exerts itself diligently, for it knows God rejects halfhearted efforts (Heb 11:6); and faith is the only way to please God, as Enoch’s example illustrates (Heb 11:5-6).
6. You must believe in the goodness of the LORD lest you faint, and then you wait for Him, and while you wait you take courage and gain His strengthening (Ps 27:13-14).
7. We believe Jesus is the Son of God, our risen, reigning, returning Lord; knowing any alteration like another Jesus of Paul or the errors of I John and Revelation corrupts faith.
8. Start by believing Jesus is the Son of God … then love Him … then obey and serve Him; make Him your all in all, under God, and the Spirit of Christ will empower you greatly.
9. Knowing Jesus the Son of God, especially as Lord and Savior, is incredible knowledge; and doing things in His name with thanksgiving secures divine strength for the task.
10. Faith is how we please God as true worshippers; we believe all He has revealed exactly as given, and we reject doctrinal compromise, ceremonial religion, etc. (John 4:20-24).
11. Faith is increased by Bible preaching (for eager hearers), and it is increased by examples in the Bible, lives of others, and your experience (Rom 10:17; 5:3-5), and as further explained by Paul results in hope that future trials will also be overcome … here, here.
12. Seeing is believing? No! Believing is seeing – faith sees the importance and reality of unseen things the world misses (Hebrews 11:1,25-27; II Cor 4:18; 5:7; Rom 8:24-25).
13. It is the spiritual foundation for a victorious Christian life, creating inner certainty and conviction for unseen spiritual realities rather than trust earthly and visible vain things.
14. Faith is an incredible gift from God (Jas 2:5; John 6:44; 10:26; Acts 11:18; II Tim 2:25); most men do not have faith, making them unreasonable and wicked (II Thess 3:1-2).
15. With nothing, and always in pain, like Lazarus, faith truly makes you a rich overcomer.
16. Faith takes God’s promises that are the basis for our greatest hopes to make them real.
17. Faith takes God’s declarations of invisible events or things to make them sure evidence.
18. Faith takes God’s commandments and makes them the most important matters of life.
19. By faith we know everything with confidence, even unseen things (Heb 11:1; I Cor 2:9).
20. God has revealed His deep things; we know things far past the world (I Cor 2:10-13).
21. Faith is far more than mental assent or lip service, as the Hall of Faith lists great exploits.
22. Atheism, evolution, and the Mass require extreme faith – to lie against all the evidence, but our faith in Jesus and all else scripture has revealed is rational, sound, and obvious.
23. It is an anchor cast into the veil of heaven, holding fast no matter violent earthly storms.
24. It is total confidence God told the truth, even when physical senses scream otherwise.
25. It is the driving force moving a believer to instant, total obedience to a sovereign Master.
26. It is the total resting of a soul upon the Person and finished work of Jesus on the cross.

1. Faith sees beyond any lack of fellowship to commit one’s spirit to God anyway (Jesus).
2. Faith ignores the loss of family and friends to remind self of God’s faithfulness (David).
3. Faith imagines even the impossible to do the unthinkable like killing a son (Abraham).
4. Faith leaves intervention up to God’s will and will not compromise (Daniel’s friends).
5. Faith ignores the hopelessness of a situation, like a prison dungeon, to praise God (Paul).
6. Faith sees the loss of all things as righteous treatment, even to being slayed (Job 13:15).
7. Faith sees the unusual by observing Jesus standing for him, rather than sitting (Stephen).
8. Faith flushes self-preservation and says for God’s kingdom, If I perish, I perish (Esther).
9. Faith measures reproach of Christ greater than treasures or pleasures of world (Moses).
10. Faith obeys though the command for a monstrous boat is foolish without rain (Noah).
11. Faith fears no consequence as when the new law forbids prayer to Israel’s God (Daniel).
12. Faith mocks dangers and an angry crowd to believe God is greater and true (two spies).
13. Faith forgets past failures and 12 years of abuse to trust the hem of her Creator (woman).
14. Faith ignores culture or trends or political winds or numbers to call fire down (Elijah).
15. Faith trusts the totally unknown even with the dearest of souls to obey God (Jochebed).
16. Faith brings nothing but guilt and shame to ask God for everything even today (a thief).
17. Faith fears no outcome and will turn down the most pleasurable temptation (Joseph).
18. Faith denies discouragement even if Jesus were to dissuade you (woman of Canaan).
19. Faith believes the impossible of the rarest occurrence for the greatest outcome (Mary).
20. Faith never quits when obstacles arise but looks for creative options (four with cripple).
21. Faith leaves comfort or familiarity when the alternative is God and His people (Ruth).
22. Faith pours out the soul in desperation even to the point of ridicule by others (Hannah).
23. Faith denies hopelessness even when known helpers cannot help (father of the lunatic).
24. Faith forgets it has tried over and over without success to cast nets once again (Peter).
25. Faith denies statistics to trust God over any numbers or probability score (Jonathan).
26. Faith looks past the visible to see the great reality of invisible eternal reward (Jesus).

1. It is the shield that extinguishes every fiery, fearful, lying dart the devil throws our way.
2. It looks away from our weakness to see Jesus instead, Author and Finisher of our faith.
3. It is supernatural knowledge that makes us wiser than brilliant worldly philosophers.
4. It does not consider human objections to trust His promises and ability (Rom 4:17-21).
5. It is never alone without works, for its active trust in God results in faithful obedience.
6. A man with faith knows all the world offers is vanity and vexation of spirit (Eccl 2:11).
7. A man with faith knows the world’s future, bad and good (II Peter 3:10-14; I Cor 2:9).
8. By faith we know all things with confidence, even the unseen (Heb 11:1; II Cor 5:1,6,8).
9. It is not just knowing about God, but it personally relies on Him and all He has written; it is not just mental assent or agreement, but a passionate commitment to readily obey; it is the daily, lifelong walk of trusting God Himself and all the promises He has given.
10. It is the spiritual assurance that the things we hope for will happen (Romans 8:24-25).
11. It is unwavering allegiance to God and His promises and commandments (Rev 14:12).
12. It is the confident expectation that God will fulfill His every promise (II Cor 1:19-22).
13. It is the total commitment to accept, embrace, and obey every statement of scripture.
14. Faith is increased and perfected by trials for great hope in God (Jas 1:2-4; Rom 5:3-5).
15. Faith believes every word of God without question (Romans 4:17-21; I Tim 6:20-21).
16. We like: “God said it, I believe it, that settles it”; yet the second clause may be quite extraneous, other than to personally claim such faith in God’s words (Romans 3:3-4).
17. Faith is doing what is right at all times, which is the ultimate test and proof of faith, for it shows the belief that God is and that God is the rewarder of diligent seekers of God.
18. Faith endures tribulation with all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness (Col 1:11).
19. Faith in Jesus knows we are more than conquerors of all negative aspects possible in this life with unbelievable and indescribable blessings coming in the perfect next life.
20. Paul used the quotation about practical faith from Habakkuk thrice, and he used it to live by faith more than legal or vital phases (Hab 2:4; Rom 1:17; Gal 3:11; Heb 10:38).
21. Faith is not overcome by worldly enemies; it rather does exploits (Daniel 11:29-35), and it does this even when not meeting with initial or significant success when acting.
22. Some exploits of the Maccabees might be among the ending verses of Hebrews 11, but the ones listed by name through the chapter are a huge encouragement for greater faith.
23. With the known and unknown men and women of Hebrews 11, we have a great cloud of witnesses to convict and motivate us to patiently run our race of faith (Heb 12:1-4).
24. Yet this knowledge cannot be mere mental assent, for that is insufficient for exploits of saints and what the devils have. It must be embraced, exalted, and applied to build faith.

26. Faith needs knowledge, or what will we believe or do? Faith grows by hearing God’s word preached (Rom 10:1-4,13-17; 15:14; II Chr 15:3; Jer 3:15; Hos 4:1,6; 6:6; Eph 1:17; 4:13-15; Phil 3:8; Col 1:9-10; I Thess 4:13-18; II Tim 4:1-4; II Peter 1:2-6; 3:18).

What Is the Object of Faith?

1. The Object of our faith is the Person of our faith – Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God.
   1. What does faith … Believe? … Embrace? … Emphasize? … Focus on? … Live by?
   2. What is the object of our faith? … Before Christ & Anno Domini (year of our Lord).
   3. Our text and its context are both clear and direct, Jesus the Son of God (I Jn 5:4-10).
   4. It is this object and person that Paul emphasized (I Cor 2:2; 1:22-24,29-31; Gal 6:14; Eph 1:20-22; Phil 3:7-8; Col 1:13-20; I Tim 3:16; 6:13-16; Hebrews 1:1-12; 4:14).
   5. John described Him in the most glorious terms (Rev 1:12-18; 5:5-14; 19:11-21).
   6. As there was a division among the Jews when He was on earth, so there will be one today between those truly following Jesus and pretenders (John 7:43; 9:16; 10:19); one division was due to missing details – was Jesus from Galilee or from Bethlehem?
   7. Belief in Jesus overcomes ignorance, discontentment, a Roman capital trial, death by religious stoning, etc. (Rom 10:1-4; Phil 4:11-13; II Tim 4:16-18; Acts 7:54-60).
2. Jesus is the object of faith – the only begotten Son of God that Jehovah greatly loves.
   1. He is the virgin-born Man destined for greatness from eternity and Eden (Gen 3:15).
   2. His virgin birth was foretold in 600 B.C. and explained to Mary (Is 7:14; Luke 1:35).
   3. He is the glorious Godman men heard, saw, watched, touched (John 1:14; I Jn 1:1).
   4. The greatest fact of the NT gospel is that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Son of God.
   5. God has testified and witnessed of Him at least ten different ways (I John 5:6-10).
   6. God declared from heaven Jesus was His Son at least two times (Matt 3:17; 17:5).
   7. Peter twice declared this same truth by divine revelation (Matt 16:16; John 6:69).
   8. The Ethiopian eunuch and Saul of Tarsus both declared this fact (Acts 8:37; 9:20).
   9. Without any debate this information is incredible and true (I Tim 3:16; Heb 1:1-14).
3. The importance of your faith – your belief – in Jesus Christ the Son of God is very great.
   1. It is the evidence and proof of being born again and God in you (I John 5:1; 4:15).
   2. It is evidence and proof of the witness in yourself for eternal life (I John 5:10-13).
   3. John wrote his Gospel record for the same reason – proof of eternal life (John 20:31).
   4. Jesus told His apostles the connection of faith and baptism (Mark 16:16; Acts 8:37).
   5. If the Bible is true, and you do not have born again faith in Christ, you are damned.
   6. Paul told the Philippian jailor that faith in Jesus was for salvation (Acts 16:30-31).
   7. Do not fail to make your faith a seeing and serving commitment of a sold-out life.
   8. It is much more than just mental consent as you hear gospel facts taught about Jesus.
   9. It is not believing in God or in Bible doctrine; it is Jesus Christ is Lord by actions!
4. But we must believe the right Jesus Christ and His role, for there are fakes and heresies.
   1. Jesus warned that false prophets would come claiming to be Christ (Matt 24:5,24).
   2. Paul mocked ignorance at Corinth that might accept another Jesus (II Cor 11:1-4).
   3. Jesus is the Son of God by incarnate sonship (Luke 1:35; John 1:14; I Cor 15:28).
   4. Jesus is the Christ, the promised Messiah (Matt 16:16; John 11:27; I Jn 2:22; 5:1).
   5. Jesus came in the flesh; He was not an apparition (I John 4:1-3; John 20:26-28).
   6. Jesus is Jehovah in His divine nature, unbegotten (Matt 1:23; I Timothy 3:16) … here.

5. Compare President Trump. What he could do for you and what he could or would not.
   1. If he was your best friend, made you a joint heir, told the military to protect you.
   2. If you always had access to him, and he always had time, and he wanted your details.
   3. If he built an apartment for you, was never ashamed of you, and let you rule nations.
   4. If you ran these comparisons as far as you could, they do not come close to Jesus, but long before that you must admit President Trump has no interest in you at all.
   5. Jesus died for you, saved you from hell, cannot die, has eternal heaven waiting, etc.
   6. He feels your infirmities, was tempted like you are, and lives to intercede for you.
   7. He knows your enemies, assigned angels to protect you, and has all things covered.
   8. Every deficiency, desire, or need you can identify, Jesus has fully covered them all.
   9. He regenerated you internally and abides there, and glorification is certain and soon.
6. Jesus is the Saviour of His elect people to rescue them from damnation to eternal glory.
   1. He came to save His people from their sins and eternal condemnation (Matt 1:21).
   2. He died a substitutionary death – in their stead – for eternal life without loss of one.
   3. But God raised Him from the dead, and He ascended into heaven to His right hand.
   4. He is the last Adam to undo the triple curse of the first (Rom 5:12-19; I Cor 15:45).
   5. His book of life has elect names from eternity to escape the lake of fire (Rev 20:15).
   6. He is the one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus (I Timothy 2:5).
   7. We are completely protected and comforted by this Son as our priest (Heb 4:14-16).
   8. The knowledge of this fact is by God’s salvation and for assurance (I John 5:20,13).
   9. The book of Hebrews shows His great superiority to every aspect of Moses’ religion.
7. Jesus is Leader and Commander over the entire universe they cannot even dream of.
   1. Not only is Jesus the King of kings, we are His brethren on white horses (Rev 19:14).
   2. Our Leader, unknown to most, is unbelievably glorious and great. Read His resume!
   3. The mighty Roman Empire sealed Him dead in a tomb, but He opened it (Matt 28:2).
   4. Jesus stood with Paul for his life before the greatest worldly power (II Tim 4:17-18).
   5. God laughs at the vain thoughts and attempts of men against Him (Ps 2:1-12; 59:8).
   6. He is the Stronger Man that easily delivered us from a strong one (Luke 11:21-22).
   7. He took the devil on and openly triumphed over him (Col 2:15; I Jn 3:8; John 12:31).
   8. There was war in heaven; the devil and his angels were thrown out (Rev 12:7-10).
   9. The whole creation groans in pain but will soon get our liberty (Romans 8:17-25).
8. Death is their greatest fear – king of terrors – but our Jesus is Prince of life (Acts 3:15).
   1. Jesus died the penal death for us, abolishing death, for immortality (II Tim 1:9-10).
   2. We are more than conquerors over seven and ten things, even death (Rom 8:34-39).
   3. We are saved from Satan with the power of death and the fear of it (Heb 2:14-15).
   4. Stephen overcame his stoning, seeing and giving his spirit to Jesus (Acts 7:55,59).
   5. They can feed us to lions or stretch us on the rack, but we have final and total victory; our brethren in the faith have proved it so through the Dark Ages (Revelation 12:11).
   6. Paul saw death to be with Christ far better than this life (Phil 1:21-24; II Cor 5:4-8).
   7. He declared coming glory much greater than any suffering (Rom 8:18; II Cor 4:17).
   8. Your new body is incredibly greater (Phil 3:20-21; I Cor 15:35-50; II Cor 5:1-8).

9. Jesus was an overcomer in every respect and way; believers in Him are also (Rev 3:21).
   1. He was tempted in all ways like us but without sin to help us (Heb 2:18; 4:15-16), and this in spite of difficulties and severe temptations far beyond what we ever face.
   2. Even in His state of humility, devils worshipped Him and begged even to enter pigs; His death on the cross spoiled them and made an open show of triumph over them.
   3. He willingly laid down His life to obey God and to save us by cruel trial and death; He was cruelly and falsely judged and condemned by men but glorified by God.
   4. He was killed dead and buried … but His spirit went to God while His body slept; He ripped that tomb open and rose from the dead and proved His life for forty days.
   5. He is the firstfruits of dead believers; He will resurrect all of them (I Cor 15:20-23), even giving an example of His resurrection power of saints at His (Matt 27:52-53).
   6. The best efforts of devils and men tried to conceal His resurrection or to mock it, but Galilean apostles and one of the Jews most-learned spread it to change the world.
   7. He is at the right hand of God forever, but He will soon rise from it to return for us; He threw the devil out of heaven and sits at God’s right hand to intercede for us.
   8. Just forty years after Jews killed Him and begged for blood guilt, He destroyed their city and temple and fulfilled many scriptures of His conquering victory over them.
   9. He will return with an incredible display of power (II Thess 1:7-10; II Pet 3:10-14), and He will formally and horribly destroy the man of sin, Satan, and all His enemies.
10. Their dysfunctional and hopeless lives are replaced by abundant life in Him (Jn 10:10).
    1. We comfort each other about dying or dead relatives and our death (I Thes 4:13-18).
    2. Their best and brightest adore ancestral baboons, our Jesus has all wisdom (Col 2:3).
    3. He defeated the grave that terrifies men for its cold end, but we mock (I Cor 15:55).
    4. He overcame the devil, who will now flee if we resist him (Luke 11:21-22; Jas 4:7).
    5. He told us about earthly tribulation, but He overcame for cheer and peace (Jn 16:33).
    6. He paid the full penalty, exposed religious lies, gives a new heart, anchors our hope.
    7. He gives the world a reprobate mind but us directive power to renew (Rom 12:1-2).
    8. They think D.C. is insider information; we know deep things of God (I Cor 2:1-10).
    9. His gospel and scripture it summarizes is the best way to live by an incredible degree.
11. Consider further His offices and roles in the administration of God’s kingdom and gifts.
    1. He drowned earth after fruitless preaching, and He destroyed His Jerusalem enemies.
    2. He sent Galilean fishermen into all the world that the gates of hell could not resist, and so turned the world upside down by converting its least and worst – the Gentiles.
    3. He was the light of the world on earth, and He is still the light (John 1:4; 8:12; 9:5), for Paul and later preachers bring truth to light (Acts 26:16-18; 13:47; II Cor 4:4-6).
    4. Every religion has priests, crucial mediators between God and men (Heb 5:1-4), but Jesus’ incredible Melchisedec priesthood is infinitely better (Heb 7:1-28) … here, here.
    5. His role as Intercessor, closely related to His priesthood, is great (Rom 5:10; 8:34).
    6. His gift of the Holy Spirit can hardly be overstated (John 7:37-39; Acts 2:33-36), but never forget that it is truly only for baptized believers (John 7:38-39; Acts 2:38).
    7. Pick your favorite Messianic Psalm and know He fulfilled it perfectly (Ps 45 et al.).
    8. What did Jehovah God over all think of Jesus Christ? At baptism and transfiguration He said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Matthew 3:17; 17:5); when He arrived in heaven took the book of covenant salvation and sat on His throne.
    9. What did the devils think of Him? They worshipped Him and knew He was the Holy One of God, the Son of God, and Son of the most high God (Mark 1:24; 3:11; 5:7).
12. He was altogether sufficient to the greatest men and women of the N.T., overcomers.
    1. Nathanael said, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel (Jn 1:49).
    2. Peter testified after many had left Jesus, Lord, to whom shall we go? (John 6:66-69).
    3. Thomas confessed, after seeing Jesus’ wounds, My Lord and my God (Jn 20:26-29).
    4. Peter declared early Jesus was Lord and Christ and only Savior (Acts 2:33-36; 4:12).
    5. Paul testified his religious achievements were loss and dung for Christ (Phil 3:4-11).
    6. Paul said glorious things about the Lord Jesus Christ (I Cor 1:28-31; Eph 3:20-21).
    7. Paul welcomed pain from his thorn in the flesh by Christ’s power (II Cor 12:7-10).
    8. Peter wrote that Jesus was precious (rare and valuable) three times (I Peter 2:4,6-7).
    9. John was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day and fell at Jesus feet as dead (Rev 1:10-18).
13. Powerful facts and the personal truth of God’s Son are key to the drama of the universe.
    1. Read His resume from the past … creation, virgin birth, resurrection, ascension, etc.
    2. Read His resume at present … at God’s right hand, ruling nations, interceding, etc.
    3. Read His resume for future … return to destroy all, judge all creatures, recreate all.
    4. Think resume sections … abilities, education, experience, achievements, references.
    5. This spiritual, devotional exercise would profit your soul … make a resume for Him!
    6. He is the Word of God; He is the Son of God; He is the Last Adam. He is Lord of lords, King of kings, and the Blessed and Only Potentate over all. He is all in all.
    7. We tried before to compare Jesus to the best, He Is Altogether Lovely … short, long.
14. Let us see how He overcomes the world and us with Him by the world’s previous views.
    1. A moral view … He taught true righteousness in His Sermon, gives power to do it all, escape sin, and partake of the divine nature (Mat 7:28-29; II Pet 1:1-4; Phil 4:13).
    2. A divine view … He saved us to know and love the true God, quickened us from vital death, and directed us to reject the world (Jn 17:1-3; Ep 2:1-3; Rom 13:11-14).
    3. A matter view … He created all things, even matter, for Himself, and He upholds all things by His word, and He is coming to recreate it (Heb 1:1-3; Rom 8:17-25).
    4. A duration view … He is alive forevermore and will receive us into His everlasting kingdom that will never end (Rev 1:18; Dan 7:18; I Thess 4:17; Rev 11:15; 22:5).
    5. A legal view … He led captivity captive, replaced imputation of Adam’s sin with His obedience, confirmed the everlasting covenant (Eph 4:8; Rom 5:12-19; Rev 5:5-10).
    6. A wisdom view … He was taught by His Father, grew in wisdom, has it all, and taught men to preach and write (Is 50:4-5; Luke 2:52; Col 2:3; Jer 3:15; Ep 4:8-14).
    7. A functional view … He and apostles taught ultimate living by an abundant life long before heaven and the coming new universe (John 10:10; Romans 15:13; I Tim 6:6).
    8. A truth view … He is Faithful and True, testifying of truth even to Pilate; He cannot lie, and He summarized truth in writing (Rev 19:11; II Tim 3:16-17; II Pet 1:19-21).
    9. A hope view … He is the God of hope, causes us to abound in hope, swore for our greater hope, is making all things new (Rom 5:1-5; 15:13; Heb 6:17-20; Rev 21:5).
    10. A fear view … He defeated death, proved resurrection, assigned angels, promised His presence, so we may be bold (I Cor 15:23,55; Heb 4:15-16; 13:5-6; I John 4:17).
    11. A spirit view … He has defeated the devil and his angels, thrown them out of heaven; they run from believers; His angels serve us (Col 2:15; Rev 12:9; Jas 4:7; Heb 1:14).
    12. A Christ view … He terrifies the devils, has ten witnesses, was mighty to gather Gentiles, and defined Himself for us (Acts 19:15; I John 5:6-10; Is 49:6; Jn 1:1,14).
    13. A remedy view … He gave terrific promises, fills with His Spirit over drunkenness, gives peace, seeks intimacy (II Cor 7:1; II Pet 1:4; Eph 5:18; John 16:33; Rev 3:20).
    14. A political view … He is Prince of the kings of the earth, rules earth with a rod of iron, delivers from the worst, manipulates all (Rev 1:5; 19:15; 17:17; II Tim 4:17).
    15. A success view … He creates total contentment, taught great gain, grants riches and enjoyment, and showed pleasing God and men (Heb 13:5; I Tim 6:6,17; Luke 2:52).
    16. Combined … we are sons of God by Him, have all things, know all things, can do all things, with a glorious future (I Jn 3:1; I Cor 3:21-23; 2:9-10; Phil 4:13; Rom 8:18).
15. The world could not hold Him down, even in a tomb. He is coming to put them down.
16. With Jesus the Son of God our Lord, Savior, Friend … Overcome (Rev 17:14; 12:11,17)!
