What a Word Is This! (#2)

 

 

EXAMPLE #1:  The voice of God started the creation of the world in six twenty-four days (Gen 1:3).

1. God said, Let there be light. And there was light. God commanded light to shine out of darkness.
2. We believe the big bang theory. God spoke, and bang, it happened. He created all things (Heb 11:3).
3. The sources of light – the sun, moon, and stars – were created three days later (Genesis 1:14-19).
4. The Bible says in holy lightness, He made the stars also; how did He do that (Gen 1:14; Ps 8:3)?
5. How long did it take for the light of stars to get to earth? Did Adam get to see the stars in his life?
6. Creation occurred on the other days by God’s voice as well (Genesis 1:6,9,11,14-15,20,24,26).
7. And God said … and it was so … is our faith in a Creator against evolutionists (six times in Gen 1).
8. The power of His voice is very great, at His command they stand up (Is 48:13; 40:26; Ps 147:4-5).
9. Heathen gods have mouths, but they speak not at all, let alone create by words (Ps 115:3; 135:16).
10. God the Word, Jesus Christ by incarnation, created all things by command (Ps 33:6,9; John 1:1-3).
11. It is this glorious creation of light in darkness that is like producing faith in the gospel (II Cor 4:6).

 

EXAMPLE #2:  God saw the loneliness of man and created a woman for him, even in Eden (Gen 2:18).

1. God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
2. This incredible matchmaking and romance by our Creator and Father is a fabulous work of history.
3. Every romance in the Bible is from these words – Isaac/Rebekah; Boaz/Ruth; Song of Solomon; etc.
4. Some may sing of wandering through forest glades, but the creation of Eve for Adam is far greater.
5. If you have a wife (or husband) that fears God, loves you, and is a constant companion, praise Him.

 

EXAMPLE #3:  God confused human languages at Babel, stopping united human effort (Gen 11:7-8).

1. The whole earth was of one language and speech, planning a city and tower to keep them together.
2. We read, The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
3. He said, Let us … confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
4. Thus the LORD scattered men abroad upon the face of all the earth for good reason (Acts 17:26-27).

EXAMPLE #4:  God authoritatively ordered protection for His faithful (I Chr 16:20-22; Ps 105:13-15).

1. God told Abimelech, Behold, thou art but a dead man, yet he took Sarah innocently (Gen 20:1-18).
2. Abimelech remembered the lesson when he caught Isaac sporting with Rebekah (Genesis 26:6-11).
3. How God communicated with Pharaoh we do not know, but he did not touch Sarah (Gen 12:10-20).
4. God also visited cruel and greedy Laban and told him not to harm His son Jacob (Genesis 31:24,42).
5. You need not fear any boss, ruler, or other man … trust and obey your God … He will give the word.

 

EXAMPLE #5:  God swore by an oath to Abraham of future justification of Gentiles (Gen 22:15-19).

1. Though He had promised eternal life before the world began, and He cannot lie, He added an oath.
2. Here is how it was pronounced to Abraham: By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD … that in blessing I will bless thee … and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.
3. Two immutable things are for the greater comfort, consolation, assurance, and anchor of His people.

EXAMPLE #6: … God told Moses from the start that He would harden Pharaoh’s heart (Exodus 4:21).

1. This sovereign judgment of this proud ruler was used by Paul when proving election (Rom 9:14-20).
2. God called Moses, saying, But I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go (Ex 4:21).
3. At the end, to drown Pharaoh in the Red Sea, He said, I will harden Pharaoh’s heart (Ex 14:4,17).
4. If you believe, fear, love the Creator God of the Bible and His Son Jesus, thank God for His grace.
5. He has chosen and designed you to be a vessel of mercy rather than endure you as a vessel of wrath.

 

EXAMPLE #7:  God stopped David’s temple plan but built him a house (II Sam 7:1-29; I Chr 17:1-27).

1. This is one of the most delightful, personal exchanges between God and a man found in the Bible.
2. David, greatly loving God, and his enemies defeated, he planned a temple to replace the tabernacle.
3. But God told him He would have his son Solomon build it, and instead He would David a dynasty.
4. Nathan delivered the message, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?… Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house (II Sam 7:5-11; I Chr 17:4-10).
5. This house God built for David was his dynasty of kings reaching to Jesus the Son of David forever.

 

EXAMPLE #8:  The voice of God authorized and prospered an evil spirit to deceive (I Kings 22:22-23).

1. God said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so, and the lying spirit did it.
2. God directs the elect angels by His word (Ps 103:20), and He also directs the evil angels (Job 1:12).
3. The blessed and holy God inspired Micaiah the prophet to antagonize King Ahab (I Kings 22:14-18).
4. God confirmed His word by the prophet Micaiah with a providential arrow (I Kings 22:28 cp 22:34).

EXAMPLE #9:  Our glorious God had choice words for Sennacherib, the king of the Assyrian Empire.

1. This great king conquered much of the earth, but he was merely a tool in the hand of our glorious God to spank Israel, who said, Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? As if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were not wood (Is 10:5-15).
2. When Sennacherib and his spokesman Rabshakeh had blasphemed God and promised Hezekiah they would utterly destroy Jerusalem, God had this choice response for him and to comfort Hezekiah, The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee (Isaiah 37:22).

EXAMPLE #10  The voice of God demoted the greatest monarch in history to a beast (Dan 4:28-33).

1. God said, O King Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
2. The greatest impeachment in history occurred the very same hour upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
3. This fabulous chapter in the Bible was not written by Daniel but rather by this king to all nations.
4. If you want a lengthening of your peace and tranquility in life, then break off your sins (Dan 4:27).

 

EXAMPLE #11:  The voice of God initiated divine blessings and prosperity upon Israel (Ezek 16:1-8).

1. God said to the helpless little infant dying in its own blood, Live! And the nation of Israel lived.
2. The power of God’s voice transformed the unwanted and hopeless infant into a mighty nation.
3. God surely said, Prosper! to this nation, for America became great in a few years from nothing.
4. He is able to say, Live! to the souls of your children, or Prosper! to your family tree. Believe it!

 

EXAMPLE #12:  If Israel would repent and practice true religion, God would bless them (Is 58:1-14).

1. They complained that God did not answer their outward worship. He did not due to their violence.
2. He defined true worship and told them they could call, and He would answer, Here I am (Is 58:9).
3. Instead of God calling Abraham, and Abraham saying, Here I am or Here am I, it is God saying it!
4. The rest of the chapter is fabulous; it defines true worship to please God and His promised blessings.

EXAMPLE #13:  The voice of Jesus completely healed an incurable leper (Matt 8:1-4; Luke 5:12-15).

1. Jesus said, I will: be thou clean. The leper knew the power of Jesus Christ’s word (Matthew 8:16).
2. Full of leprosy, our Lord’s healing power immediately made him fit for the strict Law of Moses.
3. Though Jesus tried to dissuade the man from spreading it, His fame went abroad so much the more.
4. It is the same will of God and Christ that brings about our salvation through their will (Rom 9:15).

 

EXAMPLE #14:  A centurion with a dying servant knew Jesus could heal by His word (Matt 8:5-13).

1. The other account does not have the centurion meeting Jesus but using intermediaries (Luke 7:1-10).
2. This centurion did not count himself worthy of the Lord’s presence, but trusted His spoken word.
3. He understood that his own ability to command soldiers and servants proved Christ’s greater word.
4. Jesus marveled at the man’s great faith, a worthy goal for us, that He had not seen in all of Israel.
5. Jesus spoke his healing, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee (Matt 8:13).
6. The healing miracle was according to his faith, though Jesus was at a distance, a fact to remember.
7. You must pray believing, so keep this and similar answers in mind for faith (Matt 21:22; Jas 1:6-7).

 

EXAMPLE #15:  Many with devils came to Jesus, and He cast out the spirits by His word (Matt 8:16).

1. In our text above, we saw the possessed man in a synagogue, but this declares it happened to many.
2. Compare His powerful exercise of authority others could not match (Matt 17:14-21; Acts 19:13-20).
3. He said, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
4. The apostles could not heal the lunatic, causing his father grief, but Jesus healed and explained why.
5. Jesus told the lunatic’s father, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
6. The lunatic’s father cried out with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief (Mark 9:23-25).
7. There is no devil or devils you need to fear. It would benefit you much more to fear and trust Him.
8. Our Lord explained this particular devil possession required prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).
9. Because of His finished work to free you from any charges, the devil will flee, if you resist (Jas 4:7).

 

EXAMPLE #16:  Christ’s voice turned a great storm into a great calm (Matt 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41).

1. Jesus Christ said, Peace, be still. And a great tempest became a great calm by merely His word.
2. The disciples feared exceedingly and marveled at His power, saying, What manner of man is this!
3. No man or men can tame the wind and the sea, but Jesus could and did, with only a verbal rebuke.
4. Do you have sufficient faith to put mind over matter in things like thunderstorms and tornadoes?

EXAMPLE #17:  The voice of Jesus made a lunch a feast for thousands (Matthew 14:15-21; 15:32-38).

1. Jesus Christ simply blessed the bread and multiplied it mightily to the hungry crowds of hearers.
2. Consider! The lunch was a boy’s small lunch; the crowd was huge with many men; they were all hungry; they were all filled; and great quantities of leftovers were recovered afterwards.
3. He did this twice. Once for 5000 men plus families, and once for 4000 men plus families. Glory!
4. The word of the Lord Jesus Christ can multiply your efforts that may appear very inadequate to you.

 

EXAMPLE #18:  Jesus invited Peter to walk on the water of a stormy sea to Him (Matthew 14:22-33).

1. During the fourth watch, from 3am to 6am, Jesus approached their ship during bad waves and wind.
2. His first words comforted, for the turbulent sea was nothing, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
3. When Christ by His Spirit or word comforts us, let us react strongly like Peter but continue in faith.
4. Peter got over his fear in a hurry and asked if he could do what Jesus did, who said to Peter, Come!
5. How often are you bold to attempt something for the Lord? What does He say to you? You may trust the Lord, but you must get your eyes off the boisterous waves and winds to do so with some faith.
6. Do only your reasonable best, and trust Him for the rest, avoiding extremes to sleep (Psalm 127:1-2).

 

EXAMPLE #19:  Jesus cursed a fig tree, making it wither then (Matt 21:18-22; Mark 11:12-14,19-24).

1. Jesus was hungry in the morning and approached a fig tree in the way hoping for some figs from it.
2. He commanded the fig tree, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever, and it dried up then.
3. The disciples marveled at how quickly the tree died, but He told them with faith they could do more.
4. Not only can Jesus by His word feed and heal, but He can also kill and wither, even your enemies.

 

EXAMPLE #20:  Devils must beg the word of Jesus to even enter swine (Matt 8:28-34; Mark 5:1-20).

1. Without approval and permission from the Lord Christ, devils can do nothing, not even to swine.
2. No man could bind or tame him, not even with chains, for he had often broken chains and fetters.
3. The devil swore by God for safety, hearing Jesus say, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
4. This appeal by oath – adjure thee – is what the high priest did to force Jesus to speak (Matt 26:63).
5. The devils worshipped Jesus, declared Him the Son of God, and answered Him, What is thy name?
6. Like other cases, a singular devil in charge speaks to Jesus about all of them (Mark 5:10; Luke 4:34).
7. At the word of Jesus, a man was delivered from hopeless destruction and oppression by many devils.
8. Jesus ended the devils’ power making a man crazy and put the man in his right mind by mere words.
9. If you love the Lord Jesus Christ today in your right mind, you should do what the Gadarene did.
10. Compare Job for the first two chapters. Satan knows the power of Christ and His hedge limits.

 

EXAMPLE #21:  Jesus said three things to Jairus and a daughter (Mark 5:21-24,35-43; Luke 8:41-56).

1. This ruler of a synagogue showed great faith by prostration, passion, and confidence of her living.
2. When Jesus heard the message that the child had died, He warmly said, Be not afraid, only believe.
3. We often say, with Bible support, we pray until the baby dies (II Sam 12:21-23). But what of this!
4. When He heard/saw mourners bewailing her death, He said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
5. Though a programmed custom of grief, even many Christians are too bothered by negative events.
6. What words of comfort and power! He commanded her with life-giving authority, Maid, arise!
7. They were overcome with wonder. What a word is this! He kindly told them to get her food to eat.

 

EXAMPLE #22:  Jesus has omniscience and omnipotence (Mark 5:25-34; Matt 9:20-22; Luke 8:43-48).

1. This poor woman had an issue of blood 12 years that had cost her everything with human healers.
2. Her great faith, similar in ways to the centurion, reasoned all she needed to do was touch His robe.
3. As she touched His robe, she knew instantly she was healed, and He knew instantly He had healed.
4. What are the words of Jesus in this case? He asked, Who touched my clothes? The poor apostles!
5. This woman with great faith confessed her deed by giving a true account of everything she had done.
6. Jesus called her daughter, honored her faith, let her go in peace, and promised her disease was gone.
7. The woman here may have started a trend or participated in one, for many did the same (Mark 6:56).

 

EXAMPLE #23:  Jesus’ voice twice turned fishing failure into success (Luke 5:1-11; John 21:1-14).

1. Jesus said, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. They almost drowned.
2. Having taken nothing all night, they broke a net and nearly filled and sank two ships by His word.
3. Even when you have done something without obvious results, nevertheless you should do it again.
4. Peter, witnessing this wonderful act of divine power, came under great conviction for his sinfulness.
5. Simon Peter ended his earthly relationship with Jesus Christ in a similar situation (John 21:1-14).

 

EXAMPLE #24:  Jesus stopped a funeral to help a widow recover her son before burial (Luke 7:11-18).

1. Does He care? He saw a widow, had compassion, and told her, Weep not, but He had better words.
2. He touched the funeral bier; the pallbearers stopped; He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
3. When Jesus attended funerals and gave His powerful command to arise, dead men get up and talk.
4. And He will one of these days soon visit all cemeteries with His word, and all dead bodies will arise.

 

EXAMPLE #25:  The voice of God ended a rich man’s life when he least suspected it (Luk 12:16-21).

1. God said to a successful man one night, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee.
2. An illustrious career of business successes can end in one night with a few words from the Lord.
3. His plans for larger barns to store his great prosperity for many years meant nothing to the Lord.
4. This story was to teach us – so is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

 

EXAMPLE #26:  Jesus told a blind man to receive sight, which happened instantly (Luke 18:35-43).

1. The blind man was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, as we are told in another book (Mark 10:46-52).
2. This beggar had great faith in Jesus of Nazareth, and he would not let many there silence him.
3. Jesus first asked precious words, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? Though He fully knew.
4. Bartimaeus said to Jesus, Lord, that I might receive my sight. What an exchange – faith for power.
5. Jesus said, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath made thee whole. Immediately he received his sight.
6. He followed Jesus, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

 

EXAMPLE #27:  Rulers foolishly conspired to trap Jesus by a woman taken in adultery (John 8:1-11).

1. The lesson here is not that these men were sinners, but that they were violating criminal due process.

3. Jesus first said, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her (John 8:7).
4. Jesus added, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? (John 8:10).
5. Jesus then added, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more (John 8:11).
6. This place does not condemn rulers for pornography, but it shows Jesus a master of law and debate.

 

EXAMPLE #28:  Jesus healed a man born blind for the glory of God, with a whole chapter (Jn 9:1-41).

1. This miracle of healing is well known, for it has a chapter dedicated to it, and the man was special.
2. Jesus made mud with spittle to anoint the man’s eyes, and He said, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.
3. When asked about his sight, he said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

EXAMPLE #29:  The voice of God raised dead Lazarus from the grave after four days (John 11:37-45).

1. Jesus Christ said, Lazarus, Come forth. And he that had been dead four days came forth to them.
2. Jesus told precious truth to Martha about life and resurrection and asked her to believe (Jn 11:21-27).
3. Jesus called him from the grave (John 12:17-18). This method is similar to God’s call to salvation.
4. The servants standing by were similar to ministers – all they did were take his grave clothes off.
5. Raising one dead man is incredible life-giving power, but what about all men in a day coming soon?

 

EXAMPLE #30:  The voice of God initiates our regeneration through the Spirit by Christ (John 5:25).

1. It is the voice of the Son of the God that resurrects men dead in trespasses and sins to eternal life.
2. We understand this to be regeneration by context and comparison (John 5:24; Revelation 20:6).
3. It is not the voices of mere preachers or soul winners about the Son of God, but His very voice.
4. Jesus had sheep not of the Jewish fold, and they also would hear His voice (John 10:16). Glory!

 

EXAMPLE #31:  The voice of God shall resurrect all dead bodies in the last day (John 5:28-29).

1. Simply by His life-giving voice, the Son of God will raise all dead bodies from their graves.
2. Paul refers to this resurrecting voice as a shout of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself (I Thess 4:16).
3. We do not know what He will say, though we have, Live, and, Come forth (Ezek 16:6; John 11:43).
4. There is no power in heaven or in hell to resist Him, though the wicked will not want to rise.

 

EXAMPLE #32:  Jesus has the immediate attention and reaction of God by His voice (John 12:28-30).

1. When Jesus sought God’s confirmation from heaven, He received it immediately from heaven.
2. Jesus said, Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both….
3. If your fear of God discourages you, remember your Intercessor at His right hand (John 11:22,42).
4. The greatest mutual glory between God and His Son was saving you to know Them (John 17:1-5).

 

EXAMPLE #33:  The voice of Jesus in Gethsemane caused the mob to fall backward (John 18:1-9).

1. With the help of Judas, an angry mob of Jews came to arrest Jesus for His trial and crucifixion.
2. When Jesus told them who He was, they fell backward to the ground by three words, I am he.
3. The depravity and insanity of man against Christ is proven by them getting up to arrest our Jesus.
4. Similar is Jesus to the Jews, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am (John 8:58).

 

EXAMPLE #34:  The thief on the cross heard the most kind and powerful words (Luke 23:42-43).

1. This thief had cursed the Lord just like his companion before a change took place (Matt 27:38,44).
2. He rebuked the other thief and said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
3. Jesus answered, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. And he was!
4. Remember this event for where the spirit of Jesus went at death and also the spirit of the saved thief.

 

EXAMPLE #35:  Jesus spoke to John from the cross to provide for his mother in life (John 19:26-27).

1. This is not a demonstration of power, but rather a demonstration of His compassion for His own.
2. Jesus spoke to his mother, Woman, behold thy son! He then spoke to John, Behold thy mother!
3. With the great work of redemption and death at hand, He still thought upon the needs of a woman.
4. Though distracted terribly by His crucifixion, He honored his mother as He had before (Luke 2:51).

 

EXAMPLE #36:  Jesus declared prophecies of His death fulfilled by thirst and vinegar (John 19:30).

1. The words, It is finished, were not to state salvation finished by His death making peace with God.
2. These words are connected by context to the last prophecy He needed to fulfill (John 19:28-30).
3. David had prophesied of Jesus’ death, And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink (Psalm 69:21).
4. This is one of those painful sound bites that we all loved but used it for other than the Spirit’s intent.

EXAMPLE #37:  While on the cross, Jesus spoke seven different times for seven different purposes.

1. These are commonly called the seven sayings of the cross, and they contain as many holy lessons.
2. #1 … Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do … (Luke 23:34).
3. #2 … Verily I say unto thee, to day shalt thou be with me in paradise … (Luke 23:42-43).
4. #3 … Woman, behold thy son! Behold thy mother! … (John 19:26-27).
5. #4 … My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? … (Mark 15:34).
6. #5 … I thirst … (John 19:28).
7. #6 … It is finished … (John 19:30).
8. #7 … Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit … (Luke 23:46)

EXAMPLE #38:  The voice of Jesus initiated the outpouring of gifts for the apostles (Mark 16:15-20).

1. Jesus said, Go ye into all the world, and preach … and these signs shall follow them that believe….
2. The apostles could cast out devils, speak foreign languages, take up serpents, drink deadly poisons, heal the sick, and raise the dead, among other miraculous signs and wonders and revelatory gifts.
3. The record of the apostles in Acts is incredible (Acts 2:8; 3:1-11; 5:12-15; 19:11-12; 28:1-6).
4. And this great power was predicated on the power given to the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18-20).

 

EXAMPLE #39:  The voice of Jesus Christ speaks peace to heathen Gentiles and to Jews (Is 49:1-23).

1. The mediatorial reign of Jesus Christ includes speaking peace to the heathen (Zec 9:10; I Tim 3:16).
2. The priestly ministry of Jesus Christ includes speaking peace to His obedient saints (Psalm 85:8).
3. God declared to Jesus that His work among the Gentiles would be far better and greater than His lack of fruit among the Jews. God said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth (Isaiah 49:6).

 

EXAMPLE #40:  He gave Paul the city of Corinth against opposition and persecution (Acts 18:7-11).

1. Paul needed to know His Lord’s will. Jesus said, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
2. The comforting and promising word of Christ came to Paul after the Jews blasphemed (Acts 18:4-6).
3. The comforting and promising word of Christ came to Paul before a riot broke out (Acts 18:12-16).
4. The Great Shepherd knows His sheep and own, and He told Paul of them (John 10:14; II Tim 2:19).

 

EXAMPLE #41:  Jesus comforted John and glorified Himself with wonderful words (Rev 1:17-18).

1. John, though a close friend, was terrified by the threatening appearance of the glorified Lord Jesus.
2. Jesus comforted John and then declared His victory over death and His power over hell and death.
3. His words are glorious and helpful, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

 

EXAMPLE #42:  Jesus Christ told John, Come up hither, which gave him a view of heaven (Rev 4:1).

1. Let us be in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day to see what Jesus might reveal to us of Himself (Rev 1:10).
2. John was privileged to behold the coronation of Jesus as He ascended into heaven (Rev 5:1-14).
3. Without sight from God, we cannot behold spiritual things for our profit (Psalm 119:18; Eph 1:17).
4. Therefore, we should rejoice and seek the word from His mouth for our enlightenment and help.

 

EXAMPLE #43:  Jesus will judge men with eternal judgment by His word in that day (Matt 7:21-23).

1. Jesus Christ will authoritatively declare, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
2. Consider the alternate wording to goats from the description of the final judgment elsewhere (Matt 25:41), Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.
3. But if you make your calling and election sure, both of which are all of grace, He will order an abundant entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Pet 1:5-11).

 

EXAMPLE #44:  There are many comforting words of our Lord that do not fit directly into the theme of this study, but they should be included here for consolation in light of His words on Judgment Day.

1. Mary Magdalene wondered at His tomb, but Jesus spoke one word, her name, Mary (Jn 20:11-18).

1. He had told His apostles that His departure was a good thing, Let not your heart be troubled … I go to prepare a place for you … I will come again, and receive you unto myself (John 14:1-3).
2. He reproved and exhorted Peter by asking about love, Lovest thou me more than these? (Jn 21:15).
3. The sober parable of the talents has comfort, Enter thou into the joy of thy lord (Matthew 25:21,23).
4. These examples here, like all the examples above, can be multiplied with a little study or thought.
