Solomon’s Proverbs: Business
You spend more time in your profession or business than anything else you do. And you do it to get ahead financially. Are you on a professional fast track? Is your business booming? Do you make the daily choices that please God, help clients, encourage employees, and build profits? Or are you a seat-of-the-pants person that typically reacts emotionally?
Business Proverbs of Solomon: Audio Commentaries
Proverbs 20:14
“It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer:
but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.”
Did you get a steal of a deal? Be careful – God protects sellers! Getting a price reduced by criticizing a thing and then bragging about your great deal is lying and stealing! Integrity demands a fair price and impeccable honesty.
Proverbs 21:6
“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity
tossed to and fro of them that seek death.”
Honesty is the best policy, wrote Solomon. The apparent advantage of deceit is an illusion. The gain will be forfeited, and the LORD will judge the deceiver. Professional dishonesty is like Russian roulette but with far worse odds!
Proverbs 20:16
“Take his garment that is surety for a stranger:
and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.”
Taking risks is not courage or wisdom; it shows folly, greed, haste, or ignorance. Taking risks tempts God, and He will judge such presumption. If you encounter such a fool, do not do business with him or require security.
Proverbs 17:2
“A wise servant shall have rule
over a son that causeth shame,
and shall have part of the
inheritance among the brethren.”
Discrimination is a lie of the lazy. They blame being black, old, female, Hispanic, white, young, male, pierced, or Muslim. If you have not heard it, they will invent it. Stop the blame game; get to work! Everyone loves a worker!
Proverbs 14:4
“Where no oxen are, the crib is clean:
but much increase is by the strength of the ox.”
Ever hear of capital, savings, division of labor, investment, and such like? Think they started with Adam Smith in 1776? God and Solomon revealed rules for business and economic success long before he plagiarized them both!
Proverbs 22:29
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business?
he shall stand before kings;
he shall not stand before mean men.”
How can you or your business rise to the top? There is an old-fashioned rule ignored by most of the present generation. If you can learn it, and since most of your peers will not learn it, you can be cream, and they can be the milk!
Proverbs 22:26
“Be not thou one of them that strike hands,
or of them that are sureties for debts.”
Are you living as risk-free as possible? Or could a contingent liability cost you dearly? God expects you to manage risk carefully. In an uncertain world, you must be prudent to protect yourself from unnecessary losses.
Proverbs 11:24
“There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth;
and there is that withholdeth more than is meet,
but it tendeth to poverty.”
Throwing money around can help you get ahead. No business school in America is advanced enough to teach this law of economics. Not Harvard. Not Stanford. This proverb is a financial secret from God for His people. Giving to the right causes will increase your net worth, while hoarding will lead to poverty.
Proverbs 27:23
“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and look well to thy herds.”
Tomorrow your company could eliminate your job or a competitor could locate next to your business and put you out of business. Do you systematically assess your risks? Part of wisdom is foreseeing such trouble and hiding.
Proverbs 28:20
“A faithful man shall abound with blessings:
but he that maketh haste to be rich
shall not be innocent.”
Want to get rich quick? Repent! It is sin, and it will ruin your life. Such ambition brings natural and supernatural laws against your efforts. Work hard at a noble and useful job, natural and supernatural blessings will come.
Proverbs 16:11
“A just weight and balance are the LORD’s:
all the weights of the bag are his work.”
Do you know about the Bureau of Weights and Measures? They create an environment for safe and profitable business transactions. But long before it was established, God and Solomon had already ruled strictly on this subject!
Proverbs 15:22
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed:
but in the multitude of counsellors
they are established.”
Have a huge decision to make? There is a sure way to establish your purposes and avoid disappointment of failing in your endeavor. If you can learn the rule and apply it prudently, it will save you from trouble in your life.
