Why do you use three
songbooks or hymnals?
If we told you because the Bible tells us so, would you believe us? The Bible teaches twice, in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16, that churches should sing Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. David wrote the Psalms. Hymns are songs of praise directed to God. Spiritual songs are about the Christian life. We use the Scottish Psalter of 1650 for singing Psalms; we use a Presbyterian hymnal for singing hymns; we use a Primitive Baptist songbook for spiritual songs.
