Solomon’s Proverbs: Women

King Solomon had 1000 wives (I Kgs 11:3). Much of Proverbs is to his son, where he gave lots of advice about women. If you are a boy or man, God wants to save you from evil women to marry a great woman. If you are a girl or woman, you can learn what to be and what not to be.

Women Proverbs of Solomon: Audio Commentaries

Proverbs 31:30

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a
woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

The perfect woman to marry can be found. Ignore beauty and favors of women to seek one spiritual and one natural trait. Great women exist, and one properly selected will provide lifelong blessing and influence future generations. Here are two fool-proof traits, and both sexes should learn them well.

Proverbs 6:26

“For by means of a whorish woman
a man is brought to a piece of bread:
and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.”

The whorish woman is a grave threat to every man that wants to be wise and righteous. She will reduce him to a piece of bread and seek to destroy his life. Solomon knew by experience, and he considered her worse than death. Only a few ever recover from her wiles, and then only by God’s grace. Get far away from her now!

Proverbs 11:16

“A gracious woman retaineth honour:
and strong men retain riches.”

A gracious woman will blow you away with kindness, warmth, and femininity. She is always respected, for this rare trait sets her apart from all others. Graciousness is the most beautifying trait, yet few can define it, and even fewer have it. This special woman deserves great affection, honor, and protection.

Proverbs 7:10

“And, behold, there met him a woman
with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.”

A woman’s clothing shows her heart and character. A whore dresses like one, and a virtuous woman dresses modestly in the opposite direction. She is never provocative, and her husband can always safely trust her. She knows clothes are to conceal, not reveal, those parts of her body for her husband only.

Proverbs 31:10

“Who can find a virtuous woman?
for her price is far above rubies.”

The virtuous woman is honored, loved, and praised. Husband and children adore her. She loves them dearly, creates a perfect home, and contributes to a prosperous family estate. She outworks her peers, and her accomplishments enhance her husband’s reputation and declare her superiority to all.

Proverbs 5:20

“And why wilt thou, my son,
be ravished with a strange woman,
and embrace the bosom of a stranger?”

The strange woman is any woman you have not married, which makes her an alien and foreigner to your bed. Instead of this fatally dangerous woman, a man should be satisfied and ravished with his wife’s body and love, and together they should build a legitimate and happy family, for God closely watches such.

Proverbs 9:13

“A foolish woman is clamorous:
she is simple, and knoweth nothing.”

A foolish woman is not hard to spot. She makes a lot of noise and knows little. She rejects the rules set by her father or husband. She will flirt and lie to cover her wicked intentions. She hunts innocent men in their normal course of business, and wise ones will stay far away, knowing the consequences.

Proverbs 31:11

“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,
so that he shall have no need of spoil.”

A faithful woman can be trusted in all things. She is sexually faithful, domestically diligent, financially prudent, and so forth. Her husband can be confident in her at all times, knowing she will always do what is right and profitable for him and the family. He need never fear a broken heart or dried spirit because of her.

Proverbs 27:15

“A continual dropping in a very rainy day
and a contentious woman are alike.”

A contentious woman is the nagging, overbearing creature that humanity dreads. She complains, corrects, criticizes, reminds, and suggests until you go crazy or withdraw for your own sanity. A husband with such a wife is cursed. He is better off living alone in the wilderness than in a fine house with her.
