The honest Romans road leads from Romans 3 (universal condemnation) to Romans 9 (unconditional election) to Romans 5 (legal salvation by Jesus alone) to Romans 8 (regeneration by the Spirit). Paul used faith loosely in Romans against Jewish legalism (salvation by works of the Law), and he emphasized Abraham, since God declared him righteous 400 years before Moses’ Law and before he was circumcised. James and Paul elsewhere combined faith and works as true evidence.
