Why the Study?

  1. Every word of God counts (Pr 30:5-6).
  2. Truth needs each word (Jn 10:35; etc.).
  3. Life needs every word (Luke 4:4; etc.).
  4. Study needs every word (I Cor 2:13).
  5. God gave Proverbs for wisdom (1:1-4).
  6. You should read your daily Proverb.
  7. You should read the Bible carefully.
  8. The KJV is a valuable treasure. Love it.
  9. They do more than “update language.”
  10. God confounds “wise” (I Cor 1:19-20).

Assumptions

  1. King James Version is God’s Word.
  2. We prove it by faith and fruit, etc.
  3. Satan’s tool, “Yea, hath God said?”
  4. Here is a sample of many changes.
  5. They cannot have same “originals.”
  6. Can they read Hebrew or interpret?
  7. Perilous times require a weak Bible.
  8. Holy laughter at man’s folly is good.
  9. Only by grace do we know anything.

The NKJV as Test Bible

  1. It claims to be the King James.
  2. NKJV is Thomas Nelson money tree.
  3. It claims only “updated language.”
  4. It claims an end to “thee and thou.”
  5. How does it handle “dark sayings”?
  6. Other Bibles are even worse.
  7. Paraphrases are novels about Bible.
  8. NIV is “dynamic equivalent” novel.
  9. We ignore “Cotton Patch Version.”

 

Proverbs 12:27

KJV The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

 

NKJV The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man’s precious possession.

 

TM A lazy life is an empty life, but “early to rise” gets the job done.

 

CEV Anyone too lazy to cook will starve, but a hard worker is a valuable treasure.

 

NCT The lazy catch no food to cook, but a hard worker will have great wealth.

Proverbs 21:28

KJV A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.

 

NKJV A false witness shall perish, But the man who hears him will speak endlessly.

 

NIV (#1) A false witness will perish, and whoever listens to him will be destroyed forever.

 

NIV (#2) A false witness will perish, but the words of an obedient man will live on.

 

TM A lying witness is unconvincing; a person who speaks truth is respected.

Proverbs 18:1

KJV Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

 

NKJV A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.

 

NIV An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment.

 

NLT Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense.

 

CEV It’s selfish and stupid to think only of yourself and to sneer at people who have sense.

Proverbs 18:8

KJV The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

 

NKJV The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the inmost body.

 

TM Listening to gossip is like eating cheap candy; do you really want junk like that in your belly?

 

CEV There’s nothing so delicious as the taste of gossip! It melts in your mouth.

 

NCV The words of a gossip are like tasty bits of food. People like to gobble them up.

Proverbs 23:4

KJV Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

 

NKJV Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!

 

NIV Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.

 

NLT Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.

 

CEV Give up trying so hard to get rich.

Proverbs 1:32

KJV For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

 

NKJV For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;

 

TM Don’t you see what happens, you simpletons, you idiots? Carelessness kills; complacency is murder.

 

CEV Sin and self-satisfaction bring destruction and death to stupid fools.

Proverbs 25:23

KJV The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

 

NKJV The north wind brings forth rain, And a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.

 

NIV As a north wind brings rain, so a sly tongue brings angry looks.

 

CEV As surely as rain blows in from the north, anger is caused by cruel words.

Proverbs 19:18

KJV Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

 

NKJV Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction.

 

NIV Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.

 

ASV Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; and set not thy heart on his destruction.

 

NIRV Train your child. Then there is hope. Don’t do anything to bring about his death.

Proverbs 11:16

KJV A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

 

NKJV A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches.

 

NIV A kindhearted woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth.

 

TM A woman of gentle grace gets respect, but men of rough violence grab for loot.

 

NIRV A woman who has a kind heart gains respect. But men who are not kind gain only wealth.

Proverbs 16:1

KJV The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

 

NKJV The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

 

NIV To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.

 

TM Mortals make elaborate plans, but GOD has the last word.

 

NCV People may make plans in their minds, but only the Lord can make them come true.

Proverbs 16:6

KJV By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

 

NKJV In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.

 

NIV Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.

 

TM Guilt is banished through love and truth; Fear-of-GOD deflects evil.

 

NIRV Through love and truth sin is paid for. People avoid evil when they have respect for the Lord.

Proverbs 8:12

KJV I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

 

NKJV I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion.

 

NIV I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.

 

TM I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity; Knowledge and Discretion live just down the street.

 

MLB I, wisdom, dwell with insight, I find out knowledge through deliberating.

Proverbs 13:23

KJV Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

 

NKJV Much food is in the fallow ground of the poor, And for lack of justice there is waste.

 

CEV Even when the land of the poor produces good crops, they get cheated out of what they grow.

 

TM Banks foreclose on the farms of the poor, or else the poor lose their shirts to crooked lawyers.

 

AMP Much food is in the tilled land of the poor, but there are those who are destroyed because of injustice.

Proverbs 17:19

KJV He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

 

NKJV He who loves transgression loves strife, And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.

 

NIV He who loves a quarrel loves sin; he who builds a high gate invites destruction.

 

TM The person who courts sin marries trouble; build a wall, invite a burglar.

 

NLT Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin; anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.

Proverbs 26:10

KJV The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

 

NKJV The great God who formed everything Gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages.

 

NIV Like an archer who wounds at random is he who hires a fool or any passer-by.

 

TM Hire a fool or a drunk and you shoot yourself in the foot.

 

GNT An employer who hires any fool that comes along is only hurting everybody concerned.
